Guwahati, Shillong and Cherrapunji Tour Itinerary

Day 1

Arrival in Guwahati

This is the big city of Northeast India. You also find our representative welcoming you at the Airport at Guwahati or at the Railway Station and help you into the hotel. Take some rest and then go on a city tour. Go to the Mighty Brahmaputra Riverfront (the ideal place to go on a quiet evening stroll) and a holy site and Shakti Peetha in India, the Kamakhya Temple. Overnight stay in Guwahati.

Day 2

Guwahati to Shillong (Approx. 100 km / 3 hrs)

Start a scenic drive to Shillong after breakfast. The road is so scenic as it passes through hilly terrain and a thick forest. On the way make a halt at Umiam Lake (Barapani), a wonderful reservoir encircled by pine forests- a good photo spot. Arrive at your hotel Shillong. Afternoon sightseeing in the city: take a panoramic view of the city at the Shillong Peak, visit Lady Hydari park which is full of greenery, and learn the local culture at the Police Bazaar. Overnight stay in Shillong.

Day 3

Shillong to Cherrapunji and Vice Versa (Approx. 60 km / 2 hrs one way)

Break early and go to Cherrapunzi (Sohra) which was once heralded as the wettest place in the world. The drive has breathtaking scenery of deep gorges and millions of waterfalls.
Visit: Nohkalikai falls: It is the highest plunge waterfall in India and it is a spectacular view. Seven Sisters Falls: It is a multi-tiered waterfall that is flowing down the limestone cliffs.
Eco Park: It provides an outstanding sight of the plains of Bangladesh.
Mawsmai Cave: Thrilling limestone cave sightseeing with intriguing structures.
Go back to Shillong and spend the night.

Day 4

Shillong to Dawki and Return (Approx. 80km / 2.5 hrs one way)

And prepare, today, a pictorial feast. Drive to Dawki is a tiny Indian-Bangladesh border town. The primary tourist attraction of this place is the Umngot River that boasts of crystal clear, emerald green water. You may have an option of taking a boat ride (on direct payment) on the transparent river- a feasibility that makes it look like you are floating in air! When coming back, you can explore the Living Root Bridge in the Riwai Village (a much easier and shorter walk than the one at the Double Decker) and see this marvel of bio-engineering. Go back to Shillong to stay overnight.

Day 5

Guwahati-Shillong (Approx. 100 km/3 hrs)

Then spend the rest of the leisure time at Shillong, shopping the final souvenirs at the Police Bazaar or the local markets. Then start driving back to Guwahati. Check into your hotel. During the evening, cruise on the Brahmaputra River (on direct payment, subject to operation) and when the sun sets, it is a great opportunity to relax and recollect your trip.

Day 6

Departure from Guwahati

Breakfast and leave the hotel. You can then get some spare time, depending on your flight/schedule. You will then be taken to Guwahati Airport/Railway Station.
